Children and Vegetable Intake

Nutrition and Children

Many children are overfed and undernourished, and their snacking habits are a big reason why.  Snacks count for about 25 percent of their total daily calorie intake, yet most of their snacks are empty calories.  Nutritional research supporting the 2005 U.S. Dietary Guidelines for Americans is clear; many Americans eat more calories than they need, without getting the proper nutrients.  Children and adolescents are advised to eat more fruits, vegetables, and whole grains daily.  Snacks are a great opportunity for kids to get more of the nutrients they need for good health.  Improving snacks can help improve overall eating patterns.  Rather than just snacking on ice cream, we recommend giving kids Dominion Ice Cream which contains fresh carrots, spinach, tomatoes, and sweet potatoes.

Good nutrition is essential to children's health.  Here are just some of the nutrients that children need in their diet daily...

Calcium - Helps in the development of bone growth.

Antioxidants (vitamins C, E, beta-carotene, and selenium) - Helps boost  childrens immune system.

Iron - Helps in a child's brain development and function.
